Wayne Joseph Crowley, 72, of Pine River, MN, passed away on January 4, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born September 3, 1940, on a farm close to Iona, MN, to Raymond and Kathryn (Bulfer) Crowley. He was joined in marriage on August 27, 1967, to Patricia Ann Palmer. Wayne entered the Air Force in 1960 and graduated from Officer Cadet School in 1961. He served until 1969 when he was discharged from active duty in Tacoma, WA. Wayne and Pat moved to Pine River in 1969 where he farmed. He joined the Air National Guard in Minneapolis in 1970, flying to numerous countries around the world, until he retired in 1982 as Lt. Colonel. Wayne served on the Walden Township Board for 25 years. He lectored at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Wayne enjoyed farming, caring for his cattle and working on tractors. His favorite past-time was visiting with friends and family and was a great story teller. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Pat; his son, David and daughter-in-law, Tina; grandchildren, Noah, Kyara and Shane of Pequot Lakes. He is also survived by his mother, Kathryn of Fulda, MN; and siblings: Frank (Nadie) Crowley of St. Paul, Joanne (Tony) Mussi of Mesa, AZ, Ellen (Ken) Anderson of Foley, MN, Bob (Lee) Crowley of Iona, MN, Bill (Terry) Crowley of Iona, MN, Colette (John) Struthers of Hazelton, ID, Ron (Sharon) Crowley of Spirit Lake, IA; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Crowley, and a stillborn son.
Services will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 9, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pine River, with Father Bruce Engen officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM on Tuesday, January 8, at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River, and one hour prior to the mass at church on Wednesday. Burial with military honors will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley.
