David L. Mongan, Jr., age 28, of Pequot Lakes, passed away on January 10, 2019, at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Brainerd.
Once upon a time there was a boy named Davey who was born to Susan (nee Baker) Mongan and David Mongan, Sr., of Pine River, on January 28, 1990, in Brainerd. They said he wouldn’t live to see age 5, but despite those predictions he passed away just weeks before his 29th birthday. His smile was contagious and he had the magic to make you laugh and smile. He fit the adage “to know him is to love him” and was loved by so many in his short time here on earth.
After spending his early years at home attending Pine River Backus Elementary, Davey resided at Northland Meadows where he was cared for by earth angels whose love and compassion were limitless. We will be forever grateful to the staff, past and present, for caring for him for almost 18 years.
Davey loved long van rides, rides on the trail and was something of a shopaholic. He enjoyed watching Barney, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. He especially had a thing for Vanna White. He never outgrew his love of playing patty cake with his sister, Jessica, and always did the belly laugh with her.
We take comfort in his memory, knowing that he is reunited with his mom and his story has a “happily ever after” in Heaven.
Davey is survived by his father, David Mongan, Sr.; stepmom, Wanda; honorary mom, Kathy Hansen; sisters: Jessica (Kory) Crawford of Backus, Heather (Jeremy) Goetz of Pleasant Hill, IA, Holly (Jon) Rowell of Pine River, Samantha (Skylar) Lindstam of Pine River; brothers: Jacob (Tracy) Mongan of Pine River, Philip Mongan of Radford, VA; 18 nieces and nephews and numerous other family members.
Services will be 2 PM on Friday, January 18, at First Lutheran Church, Pine River. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
