Douglas Bowen

Douglas Chester Bowen, age 83, of Nisswa, died December 1, 2018 at St Joseph’s Medical Center, Brainerd. He was born on January 31, 1935 in Mankato, MN, the only child of Chet and Olwen (Jones) Bowen. He married Dorothy Boushek on July 12, 1958.

After graduating from Mankato State University and serving in the Army Reserves, Doug spent most of his life as an entrepreneur. He owned Bowen Trailer Sales in Mankato for many years before selling the business in 1976. After many summers spent at Round and Gull Lake, Doug and Dorothy moved to Nisswa in 1981, where Doug enjoyed retirement and also continued his entrepreneurial ways in the area of real estate development. In both Mankato and Nisswa Doug was active in numerous civic endeavors including the Boy Scouts of America, the Ski Gull Board, Nisswa Chamber of Commerce, and many others boards and committees. Doug enjoyed fishing trips to Baudette and summer trips with his grandsons.

Doug is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy; twin daughters, Denise (Rick) Iverson and Deborah (Joe) Hallbeck; grandsons, Jesse, Luke, and William Hallbeck; granddaughter, Nicole Mellas; step grandsons, Dan (Tamara) Iverson and Ricky (Heather) Iverson; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be 11 AM on Friday, December 7, at Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow. Final resting place, Grandview Memorial Cemetery, Mankato.
