James Gearey, Jr.

James Victor Gearey, Jr., age 81, of Pine River, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. He was born December 22, 1937, in Pine River to James and Mary Alice (Christian) Gearey. Jim married Irene Britton at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd on February 27, 1965. He served in the U.S. Army 501 Airborne Infantry Company C from 1957 to 1959. Jim was a member of First Lutheran Church, Pine River, the Pine River Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, the Pine River American Legion for 50 years, the Pine River Lions for 40 years and was a Pine River City employee for 21 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada and cutting firewood.

Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene; son, Greg (Libby) Gearey; granddaughters: Annika, Greta and Elaina Gearey; brother, Lynn (Debbie) Gearey; sisters: Mary Ann Kline, Carolyn (Richard) Carlson, Paula Bohannon; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John Carl Gearey; parents; and brother, Alan Gearey.

Memorials may be given to the John Carl Gearey Scholarship Fund at First Lutheran Church, Pine River.

Services will be 2 PM on Sunday, March 31, at First Lutheran Church, Pine River. Visitation will be from 12:30 until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will be 4:30 PM on Sunday at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
