Kermit Roseen

Kermit Albin Roseen, of Hackensack, MN, formerly of Long Lake, MN, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. He was born on a farm outside of Roseau, MN, on December 8, 1934, to Albin and Mable Roseen.

A hot cup of coffee with sugar, family, and friends always got his day started. He graduated from Roseau High School and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He met his wife, Una Orud, at his former high school where she had taken a teaching position.

Family and friends were important to Kermit, as well as fishing, camping, and canoeing. Several trips were taken to the Boundary Waters.

Farm life gave Kermit a strong work ethic that led him into many careers. He started driving at the age of ten, driving the milk into the creamery, eventually getting a job at the creamery taste testing cream and butter. His love of driving made him popular, taking friends to Saturday dances, Sunday drives with the family, driving taxi, and eventually retiring as an over-the-road truck driver.

Kermit was an avid reader and lifelong learner. He read everything from westerns to instruction manuals. He wasn’t afraid to read a map, which led him to getting his pilot's license. One of his earlier jobs in life was a pinsetter for the local bowling alley. When machines took over that job, he learned to repair those machines. Bowling was a passion, being on several weekly leagues and traveling leagues. Eventually, he bowled 300, giving him a 300 ring and 700 series.

Kermit lived a life of music; he was still dancing until the age of 88, and although he had no formal training, he enjoyed sharing music with church choirs and the community. He became a member of Geritol Frolics and Legacy Choral. You could always catch him humming or whistling a tune. The Geritol Frolics is where he met a special, loving companion, who made the last several years of his life happy and blessed!

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of 52 years, Una (Orud) Roseen; brothers, Floyd and Leroy; and sister, Doris.

He is survived by his children, Tamara, Marci, and Keith (Julia); 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Deloris, Mertrice, and Luann; brother, Wayne; companion, Judy Nelson from Crosslake, MN; her daughters and grandchildren.

Kermit had a generous heart and love for everyone he encountered. He will be greatly missed!

Services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hackensack, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
