Margaret Ruth (Steinhaus) LaBarre, 75, of Pequot Lakes, went home to be with her Savior on January 7, 2018. Margaret passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurism, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, MN. While we grieve, we know that she is rejoicing with her Lord - and for this we are eternally thankful.
Margaret was born September 3, 1942, in Mankato, MN to Roland Steinhaus and Mary (Sheldon) Steinhaus. She grew up on a farm in Waterville, MN. Following high school, she attended Mounds Midway School of Nursing. While going to school she met and married Jack LaBarre on November 16, 1963. She was a registered nurse who worked in ICU for over fifteen years. After moving to Pequot Lakes in 1979, Margaret continued serving as a public health nurse for Crow Wing County from 1980 to 2006. She continued nursing after retirement serving as a parish nurse and conducting preschool screenings for the Brainerd and Pequot Lakes School districts.
Margaret was active in the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church: played piano, served as a leader in AWANA and sewed for Eve's Quilts. She was the President of the Gideons Auxiliary Brainerd Camp, attended Bible Study Fellowship, enjoyed traveling and went on multiple mission trips to Ecuador.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Jack; children: John (David) LaBarre, Oakland, CA, Steve (Amy) LaBarre, Pequot Lakes and Vicki (Todd) Trees, Pequot Lakes; brothers: Bruce (Jan) Steinhaus, Waterville, MN and Dick Steinhaus, Lantana, TX; grandchildren: Aaron and Alex Trees, and Sophia, Max, Lily and Jack LaBarre.
Services will be held Friday, January 12 at 11:00 am at the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church. Visitation will take place at the Pequot Lakes Baptist Church on Thursday, January 11, from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm and on Friday, one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Camp Lebanon, Burtrum, MN (www.camplebanon.org) or to Gideons International (www2.gideons.org/).
