Robert Wendel

Robert Frank Wendel, age 88, of Pine River, MN, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Brookside Comfort Care in Pine River. He was born at home southwest of South Heart, ND, to Clement and Minnie Cinder Wendel on April 10, 1930. Bob graduated from South Heart High School and served in the Korean War. He married Mary Keller. Bob worked delivering propane around the South Heart area as well as the briquette plant and Sax’s Motors in Dickinson, ND, before moving to work for Liebelt Chevrolet in Beulah, ND. He was City Auditor for the city of Beulah until his retirement. Bob also prepared income taxes for many years out of his home office. Bob and his wife, Mary, moved to Minnesota where they resided until their deaths. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, going to “bull sessions” with his fellow veterans and talking about his war memories.

Bob leaves a stepdaughter, Betty (Dean) Lawler of Roundup, MT; stepson, Frank (Pat) Wendel of Saginaw, Michigan; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret (Emil) Wieglenda of Gladstone, ND; brother-in-law, Herb (Donna) Keller of Billings, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; brothers, Bill and Edwin; sister-in-law, Tammy; and nephew, William Wieglenda.
