Wesley Borchert

Wesley Allen Borchert, aged 86, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, in Backus, MN. He was born on February 17, 1937, to Fred and Esther (Gish) Borchert in Federal Dam, MN. Wes graduated from Grove City High School in 1955, where he denied ever exhibiting behavior problems in any grade…we don’t buy it.

After high school, Wes joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956. He was assigned as a jet mechanic and worked as a ground crew member on the B-54 Ultrafortress strategic bomber. He was honorably discharged after 4 years with the rank of Airman Second Class. Following his humble service, Wes worked a myriad of jobs from welder and fabricator in Odessa, TX, to clock repair work in Dassel, MN, to renowned baker at the Library Square Restaurant in Litchfield, MN. Wes described himself as a “jack of all trades” and his family can attest to that claim.

Wes was an exemplary father to four children and an exceptional grandpa to six grandchildren. His favorite pastimes were shooting guns, hunting pesky squirrels with his BB gun, fishing, playing card and board games, golf, and spending time with his family.

Wes is survived by his children: Allen Borchert of Midland, TX; Colleen Berthold (Willy) of Backus, MN; Sandy Borchert (Darell) of Fort Ripley, MN; David Borchert (Janice) of Cold Spring, MN. His sister Margie Conway (Chuck) of Missoula, MT. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, Floyd and Fred; and two sisters, Francis and Florence.

There will be no memorial per Wes’s wishes. The family requests no donations or flowers. Finally, we would like to thank St. Croix hospice staff for their extraordinary care in his final days.
