Carol Walker

August 5, 1937 — December 29, 2019

Carol Jean Walker passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29 at Senior Class Care, Pequot Lakes. Carol was born August 5, 1937, to Jim and Anna (Hartman) Murra in Buffalo Center, IA. She was the youngest of two girls. Carol grew up in the Buffalo Center area, attending Lincoln No. 4 Country School and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1955. She attended Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, MN, and graduated from Northwestern College in Minneapolis, MN with a degree in Christian Education. Carol spent her summers working for Rural Bible Crusades in IA. After graduation she became Director of Christian Education at Erin Avenue Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH.
Carol met Don Walker while he was in the army. Don’s sister Dot was her
roommate in college and encouraged Carol to write him. They were married on December 23, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center, IA.
Courtship was almost all done by letter while Don was in Korea. They made their home at Ft. Bragg, NC. After military service they made their home near West Concord, MN. Later they adopted two children, Scot Donovan and Jane Ann when they moved to Buffalo Center, IA and farmed there. Carol worked at Mayo Clinic until they moved to IA.
Carol was dedicated to her faith in the Lord and spent many hours volunteering with ladies groups, youth groups, teaching Sunday School, etc. She had a large sewing room and made countless baby blankets and pillows for all the new babies in the church, neighbors, and others.
Carol was well known for her hair always in place, being impeccably dressed, and a light make up adorning her gentle smile, whether for church, a night out, or just doing her shopping. She was also known for her kindness and generosity. She would be the one to welcome a newcomer at church or someone moving into the neighborhood, Her unconditional love made her a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Carol is survived by her husband, Don; son, Scot Walker (Kelly) of Brainerd; daughter, Jane Page (Andy) of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren; one step granddaughter; and three great grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 11, at First Baptist Church, Baxter. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM at First Baptist Church, Baxter, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Camp Ripley.
