David Almich

March 23, 1945 — December 22, 2020

David Louis Almich, age 75, of Brainerd, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at his home surrounded by loving family. He was born to Louis and Delvina Almich on March 23, 1945, in Minneapolis.

Dave is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Benjamin (Emily); daughters, Carrie Weinberg (Caleb) and Heather McCabe (John); grandchildren: Kaeli, Lane, Chase, Asher, Alex, Christian and Ana; sisters: Yvonne Curtis, Kathy Rouillard, Peggy Story, Laurie Clark (Greg); many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, David Smith.

Dave lived his life in Minnesota between the Cities and the Brainerd area. After college Dave enlisted in the Navy and spent two years on the deck of USS Bon Homme Richard.  He received the Navy Service Commendation and several medals from his Vietnam service. After returning from the Navy, Dave’s father passed away and Dave took over the service station that his father managed. With his experience in the automotive service industry he started Golden Valley Tire, a business he built from the ground up, which still operates today 40 years later.  Throughout his life there was one constant - fishing. Dave was never happier than out on the lake with a fishing rod in his hand. He passed on his love fishing to his son, Ben, and made every effort to share it with his grandchildren. Dave was incredibly proud of his 3 children and 7 grandchildren. He made big efforts between Minnesota, Colorado, and California to show up and cheer them on in all aspects of their lives. He was active in his church and impacted all who met him, especially with his many cribbage games, big hugs and humorous personality.

A special thank you to the great St. Croix Hospice team for the love and devotion shown to Dave.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held at a later date when it is safe to gather.
