Edith W. (Edie to family and friends) Hummel, age 89, of Crosslake, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Golden Horizons, Crosslake. Edie was born in Mpls to Ludwig and Wilhelmine Hanus on Dec. 23, 1930.

Edie and Jim Hummel entered into the Holy Sacrament of Marriage on May 19, 1956. Edie retired from Cargill where she was an Executive Assistant. Later, she and Jim became owners and entrepreneurs of Hosanna House (Catholic books and gifts) in Brainerd. Edie was a devoted Catholic and her Catholic faith was her passion and it was known to all who knew her. Her family was her next passion followed by friends, a good card game and golf.

Edie is survived by her children: Kevin Hummel (Jean), Lisa Poirier (Paul), Keith Hummel (Linda Deegan); grandchildren: Angela Hummel, Nick Hummel (Amy), Eric Schumacher (Audrey), Natasha Deneau (Josh), Marc Hummel (Larissa Arntz), Reagan Hummel; great grandchildren: Ethan, Collin, Sophia, Michael, Zoe, Violet. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim; her parents; her brothers, Wally Hanus and Louie Hanus, who both lovingly called her “Toots”.

There will be a Catholic Funeral Mass (private) at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at Immaculate Heart Church in Crosslake. It will be preceded by a limited and monitored visitation from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Holy Mass will be live streamed. Committal at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake immediately following Mass.
