Marvin Semmler

October 23, 1924 — March 12, 2021

Marvin Semmler, 96, longtime resident of rural Backus, passed away at his home in Ponto Lake Twp. March 12, 2021. He was preceded in death by wife, Genevieve (Sheller) in 1981; parents, John and Emelia (Maas); 4 brothers: Theodore, Lenard, Theophil, and Vilo; and 6 sisters: Alma (Howard), Elsa (Lea), Agnes (Prosser), LaVerne (Grant), Violet Semmler, and Vilma Brochhagen.

Marvin was proud of his service to his country in the Navy’s Pacific Fleet from 1942 to 1945 where his ship was involved in several major battles. For the past 50 years, Marvin farmed in Ponto Lake Twp. He was involved with the Pine River Legion Post 613 Color Guard for 40 years.

Marvin is survived by son, Stanley (Jackie) of Ponto Lake; daughter, Jolaine Springer of Ponto Lake; granddaughter, Jenifer Jager of Apple Valley; grandson, Tony Doran (Savanna) of Linn Creek, Mo; 4 great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Noah Jager and Chantz and Alaina Doran; and “honorary daughter” – niece Shana Bardeaux.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River. Burial will be later this spring at Ponto Lake Cemetery.
