Pauline Kunde

Pauline “Paula” (Pitts) Kunde, age 90, of Backus, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2022, at Birchview Gardens Assisted Living in Hackensack. She was born on January 30, 1932, in Doerun, Georgia, to William Mack and Ethel (James) Pitts.

On January 2, 1952, Paula was united in marriage to Paul Kunde in Albany, Georgia, and to this union they were blessed with three daughters, Roberta, Patricia, Susan, and son, Leslie. They made their home traveling to various Army bases in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Germany until Paul’s retirement from the Army in 1964. They returned to Backus, and started a new life where Paula worked at various jobs as well as being a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving fruits and vegetables and going to garage sales.

Paula’s passing is mourned by her daughters: Roberta Slaughter (Michael), Patricia Lehr (Patrick), Susan Niehaus (Lee); son, Leslie Kunde (Loraine); grandchildren, Taylor Lehr and Nathan Kunde; and sisters, Mary “Evelyn” Perry and Betty Elliot. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Paul; her parents, Mack and Ethel Pitts; brothers, James “J.C.” and Earl Pitts; and sister, Louise Hall.

Services will be 10 AM on Wednesday, August 17, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Following the service, burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Backus, followed by a reception at the Backus American Legion.
