Richard Maas

October 29, 1938 — May 11, 2021

Richard Russell Maas, 82, passed away on May 11, 2021. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to so many.

Dick graduated from Bloomington High School and went on to Minnesota State University-Mankato where he earned multiple degrees in Administration and Education. He began his teaching and coaching career in West Concord, Minnesota. He then moved on to Richfield High School where he was a teacher, coach and principal for 36 years. While he was principal at Richfield High School, he was active in the Minnesota State High School League, where he served as a board member and President. Dick also received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Minnesota State University-Mankato. After a successful career in education, he retired in 1997 and moved to his beloved Kimble Lake Home where he continued to stay active in his community. He helped form the Kimble Lake Association and was a part of the Ideal Corners Scholarship Committee. Dick was also a member at Crosslake Lutheran Church serving on several committees. Dick will always be known as a positive thinker, who always had a smile on his face, and a kind word for everyone- a great friend to many.

Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, JoAnn; children, Kelli (Frank) Mork, Brett (Brenda) Maas; grandchildren: Kayla, Frankie, Madelyn, Connor, Cameron, Callum; sister, Marge; brothers, Robert and Jim; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Betsy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Crosslake Lutheran Church, Ideal Corners Scholarship Committee, or American Cancer Society.
