Sandra Walker

January 25, 1944 — May 16, 2021

Sandra Kay Walker, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 16 at her home in Pequot Lakes, MN.  She was born on January 25, 1944 to John and Lucille Walker in Iowa. The family moved to Brainerd and she graduated from the Washington High School.  Sandy was an amazingly talented person who loved to paint and do crafts and help others.  For years she headed up the huge craft fair at St Joseph’s Hospital and was president of the Encore Art Club, formerly the Brainerd Art Club.  She was a fabulous cook and cooked many meals at the Senior Center for the holidays to serve those who were in need. Her love of cooking brought her to the Moose Lodge and Taco Towne. Countless people were recipients of her individually crafted holiday treats for Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She cooked many meals and invited those who had no place to go to join her for various holidays. The residents of her apartment building would often find little bags of Sandy’s “goodies” hanging on their doorknobs. She volunteered at the nursing homes and would paint miniature pumpkins for the residents. She taught many craft and painting classes for the Community Education Program.  Her artistic ability won her a trip to the White House where a Christmas ornament she had made was placed on the White House Christmas tree.  Sandy loved to garden which was very evident by the beautiful gardens at her Baxter home.  Sandy’s loving and nurturing personality led her to care for many individuals who were sick and in their final stages of life.  Sandy was very devoted and loyal her church, The Christ Community Church, where she was very active in the Care & Share Ministry Team as well as helping with Vacation Bible School, Easter breakfasts and her favorite event, The Back To The 50’s Party.  Anyone who knew Sandy realized that she had a heart of gold, was generous beyond measure, had a positive attitude that would brighten anyone’s day and laughter that lifted many spirits. She never missed an occasion to send cards to those who needed encouragement or sympathy, a get well wish, a congratulatory wish, a birthday wish or holiday wishes. Her humble, loving nature and her quick wit and sense of humor made her a joy to be around. Sandy will be missed by her cat Rascal and by her countless friends who were blessed to have known her. She is now rejoicing in heaven with her Lord she served so well.  It is well with her soul.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Thursday, May 27, at Christ Community Church in Nisswa.
