Vernon Dale Buss, age 85, of Pequot Lakes, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Brainerd, of complications due to recent strokes. He was born to Hye and Marie Buss on August 12, 1935, on the family farm near Pequot Lakes. He was the youngest of seven brothers and sisters - Grace, Chuck, Lillian, Arlene, Frances and Bill - all of whom preceded him in death.

Vernon Dale Buss, age 85, of Pequot Lakes, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at Essentia St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Brainerd, of complications due to recent strokes. He was born to Hye and Marie Buss on August 12, 1935, on the family farm near Pequot Lakes. He was the youngest of seven brothers and sisters - Grace, Chuck, Lillian, Arlene, Frances and Bill - all of whom preceded him in death.

Vern met his future wife, Linda Hillestad of Knox, North Dakota, when both were working for Solar Gas Company. They were married in Pequot Lakes on December 15, 1962. They owned Vern and Linda’s Gas Service in Pequot for 35 years. Linda, their daughters, Juanita Buss and Verena Walton, their sons-in-law, Sean Martin and Gary Walton, and their grandchildren, Nathan, Claire and Solveig, will remember him with love.

Vern was a hard worker, a friend to many, and a person who was always happy to help others. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and loved to tell a good story and pull a good prank.

Vern served in the U.S. Army in Korea and on the Brainerd Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pequot Lakes.

A celebration of Vern’s life will be held at a later date.
